There are around 35,000 species of orchids worldwide, and Ecuador is one of the richest countries in orchid diversity. With more than 4,000 identified species, including over 1,700 endemic varieties, Ecuador is truly a paradise for orchid lovers.

Orchids grow in many environments. Most live on trees, where they capture light, warmth, and fresh air, while others grow on rocks or directly in the soil. Their incredible variety and exotic beauty make them one of the most fascinating flowers in nature. Whether for decoration, gifts, or plant collections, orchids bring elegance, color, and life to any space.

6-Day Orchid and Cloud Forest Tour

Discover the incredible biodiversity of Ecuador, located on the Equator and known as one of the most diverse countries in the world. Explore the beautiful cloud forests on the slopes of the Andes Mountains and observe hundreds of bird species, colorful insects, and thousands of orchids in their natural habitat.

Arrival and Transfer to the tropical Cloud Forest

Arrival at Mariscal Sucre International Airport or pick-up from your hotel in Quito. From there, we travel to Nanegal, located in the beautiful tropical forest of the northwest Andes.

After a scenic drive of approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, we arrive at Butterfly and Bird Julio Tours Eco-Lodge, surrounded by lush vegetation and incredible biodiversity. Here you can enjoy the peaceful environment, observe butterflies, birds, and the rich wildlife of the tropical cloud forest.

Natural Orchids in the Upper Tropical Forest – Nanegal & La Delicia

Explore the lush tropical forests of Nanegal and the La Delicia community, located in the heart of the Chocó Andes. This region is a biodiversity hotspot, home to countless orchids and endemic plants. With elevations ranging from 900 to 2,500 meters above sea level, it provides the perfect environment for a remarkable variety of species.

During your stay, enjoy three full-day excursions through these stunning rainforests. Each day begins with breakfast, followed by guided exploration of the trails, where you will discover over 150 species of orchids in their natural habitat.

Lunch will vary throughout the tour: on some days, a boxed lunch will accompany you on your excursion, while on others, enjoy a meal at the open-air restaurant, where you can watch hummingbirds and other birds visiting the feeding stations on the observation platforms.

Full-Day Exploration at Santa Lucía Ecolodge Reserve

After breakfast, we will take a 20-minute drive to Santa Lucía Ecolodge. This reserve is a community-run ecotourism project located high in the Andean cloud forest, between approximately 1,300 and 2,500 meters above sea level. It protects a large area of primary and secondary forest, preserving the rich biodiversity of the region.

Here, we will encounter a wide variety of flora and orchids as we explore the trails. We will spend the entire day immersed in this extraordinary natural environment, observing the plants, orchids, and wildlife that make Santa Lucía a true cloud forest gem.

Orchids and Biodiversity in the Mindo Area

The Mindo area is famous for its rich forest ecosystems and its efforts to rescue, protect, cultivate, reproduce, and conserve orchids. The region is home to around 250 orchid species.

Our tour begins with a visit to the orchid garden, where we will spend approximately 20 minutes observing between 35 and 60 species in bloom. Afterward, we will explore other orchid sites in the area to enjoy even more of these stunning plants.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Mindo, offering a taste of the region’s cuisine.

At around 4:00 PM, we will return to your hotel or lodge in Quito.
