Ecuador is one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, with more than 1,600 recorded bird species despite being only the size of Colorado. This full‑day tour takes you into the Chocó Biogeographic Region on the western slope of the Northern Andes, a cloud forest area rich with hummingbirds and other spectacular bird species. Expect outstanding opportunities to photograph more than 40 different hummingbird species against stunning Andean landscapes.

Detailed Itinerary

07:00 AM — Hotel Pickup (Quito)
We begin with a morning pick‑up from your hotel or from Quito International Airport. From there, we drive about 35 minutes to enter a unique tropical Andean cloud forest ecosystem.

Morning — Cloud Forest Hummingbirds
In this habitat, hummingbirds immediately attract your attention with their dazzling colors and rapid flight. Species you may see and photograph include:

• Green‑tailed Trainbearer

• Sparkling Violetear

• Tyrian Metaltail

• Shining Sunbeam

• White‑bellied Woodstar

• Black‑tailed Trainbearer

• Purple‑backed Thornbill

Midday — Hummingbird Feeders and Lodge
We arrive at one of the most diverse lodges in the area, where hummingbird feeders attract 20+ species, creating an excellent backdrop for photography. Here you’ll enjoy a delicious box lunch while continuing to photograph hummingbirds up close.
