Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, with over 1,700 recorded bird species across various habitats, from tropical forests to the Andes.
This tour explores rich ecological areas, including hummingbird feeders and the famous lek of the Andean Cock‑of‑the‑Rock, where you can witness their spectacular mating displays.
DETAILED ITINERARY
5:00 am – Departure from Quito
Pickup at your hotel or the airport in Quito.

At our first stop we will enjoy a delicious coffee and the birds all around us like the Tufted Tit-tyrant, Rufous-naped Brushfinch, Azara’s Spinetail, Crimson-mantled Woodpecker, Scarlet-bellied Mountain-tanager, Blue-and-yellow Tanager, Southern Yellow Grosbeak, Grass Wren, Red-crested Cotinga, Streak-throated Bush Tyrant. At hummingbird feeders: Black-tailed Trainbearer, Green-tailed Trainbearer, Sparkling Violetear, Tyrian Metaltail, Shining Sunbeam, White-bellied Woodstar, and Sword-billed Hummingbird.
After the first stop, we continue to drive for 35 minutes to the the Nanegal ecologically rich area on the tropical forest of the Pichincha area. At this elevation, we will look for several species, like Tawny-Bellied Hermit, Green-Crowned Brilliant, Western Emerald,Guayaquil Woodpecker, Ringed Kingfisher, Red-Headed Barbet and many more.

From 9 a.m. onwards, our journey continues to Nanegal area tropical forest where we will find endemic species of the Choco Andean area especies like: Choco Tyrannulet, Choco Toucan, Tawny-Bellied Hermit, Green-Crowned Brilliant, Western Emerald, Guayaquil Woodpecker, Ringed Kingfisher, Red-Headed Barbet and many more.

Lunch at our open-air restaurant surrouded by hummingbirds and sublime tropical forest landscape.

13:45 pm - departure to Andean Cock-of-the-Rock Lek

After lunch we went to the special place of these highly sought-after birds that from three in the afternoon come out to show their dance in order to conquer a female, it is the exact time for us to be able to observe this wonderful time that nature gives us.
4:00 pm Transfer back to any hotel in Quito area or to Quito airport
